While “making a scene” is normally frowned upon, your smart home system turns a scene into a good thing. With the home security app you use to manage your system, you can use the scenes function to control your entire network of smart home devices.

How is it done? Here are three easy steps.

1. First, open your home security mobile app.

If you’re using your smartphone, open your home security app. If you’re on a desktop computer, you’ll need to log in to your account. Once you’re in, your path is emPower > Scenes. You’ll see four pre-set scenes: Home, Away, Sleep and Wake Up.

2. Now, choose what you want your scenes to do.

Next, it’s time to choose what you want each of these scenes to do. Remember, they already have commands built into them; however, you can add and delete those commands directly from the app. Looking to keep one light on during the Sleep scene, while turning the other lights off? You can easily program your scene to do it. Don’t want your Away scene to touch the temperature in the house? You can remove that command from the scene.

With the home security app you use to manage your system, you can use the scenes function to control your entire network of smart home devices.

3. Create other customized scenes.

While the four main scenes on your app are a great place to start, your smart home security app allows you to create even more; these are custom scenes that you design personally according to the needs of your household. One of the most popular customized scenes is “Movie,” where you can adjust the alarm, lighting and thermostat for a cozy night in with the family. Another choice may be “Kids Bedtime,” which can include all the commands needed for parents staying up after the kids are asleep.

Making a scene doesn’t have to be a bad thing; when it comes to your smart home security system, it’s encouraged. To learn more about household management using smart home security, Southern California homeowners can call Post Alarm Systems. We look forward to hearing from you.
